Winter is refusing to let go, and our winter training feels like it has stayed with us, too. George and I finished the last half mile of a slow eight mile training run in 38 degrees on Friday at a nice easy 7:10 pace. Felt good to finish a mid-range run with a good push. In January we were finishing mid range runs with the same level of effort at an 8:00 pace.
With six months to go before our Boston Marathon qualifying runs at Wineglass, 7:10 gave us confidence that we're on the right track. George tested himself at the Run Around Egg Hill 10-miler Relay last weekend and was pleased with his performance. He averaged a 7:35 pace uphill for three miles, and, as a group, they improved their time by 30+ seconds over last year's time. In less than a week I'll run my first race of the season, the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 10k in downtown Pittsburgh. Can't wait to see how I measure up with my past 10k times.
