We ran mile repeats today on the cinder track at O’Hara Elementary School. It was a somewhat sunny morning, but cold, especially when the clouds blocked the sun.
Our goal today was to practice running each mile at a better pace than we’ll need to average at the qualifying marathon. We timed each lap to make sure we were keeping up with our expected times at the quarter mile marks. After a comfortable warm-up, we ran three repeats. The first mile felt heavy, maybe due to the nine we ran yesterday. We faced a headwind on the backside of every lap, too.
This was our first mile-repeat training of the challenge. We were shooting for 7:45 minute miles today and we got 7:56, 7:44 and 7:53. Good training day, but it wasn't easy. We agreed that we’re nowhere near ready now to sustain those mile times for a distance race.
